Thomas Menk

X-Pert 53 Interview

back

Thomas Menk is a Fuji-X Photographer from hachenburg, Germany and specialises in Fine Art photography.

Thomas is what I consider to be a meticulous photographer. His attention to detail is astounding and that would apply to every aspect of the photograph. Within his interview he confesses that detail is an essential quality he likes to shoot with the XF35mm F1.4 lens. You will be more than exposed to this as you enjoy the images he has submitted with his answers. His selection of shots also contain some of my favourite shots collected within the X-pert 53 gallery. I consider Venice to be the most beautiful city in the world. It is my favourite place to visit. For this reason, his shots of Venice evoke so much emotion and nostalgia that the romanticism of the city is captured wonderfully, using the sublime bokeh that the F1.4 produces. The slight haze coating these shots only heightens this quality all the more. I am thrilled that Thomas has taken this interview and shared his take on the XF35mm F1.4 lens. I hope you get a feel of his precision photography and the fervour they exude.

Here is Thomas's X-pert 53.

1. What Genre Of Photography Do You Specialise In?

I'm a Fine Art Photographer and my main genres are landscape-, urban landscape-, street- and architecture photography.

2. Why Do You Like Using The XF35mm Lenses?

To me, the XF35mm f/1.4 lens it the mother of all Fuji X-lenses. I like the field of view, it’s compact, lightweight, has a great bokeh and is very sharp. It was my first Fuji lens and the beginning of a Fuji love affair. I find that the 35mm focal length keeps me focused on my subject and helps me to develop my creativity.

3. What Do You Like Photographing The Best With Your XF35mm Lens/Lenses? Why Your Choice?

People, details and documentary. My choice for getting intimate with my subjects.

Why Your Choice?

The 35mm lens lets me get closer and personal with my motifs

4. Do You Shoot Professionally With The XF35mm Lenses?

Yes

5. Fuji XF35mm F/1.4 Or Fuji XF35 F/2? Why Your Choice?

If I could only have one 35mm lens, it would have to be the f1.4.

Why Your Choice?

It's a lens with character - headstrong and not perfect, but brilliant :)

6. How Often Do You Reach For Your XF35mm Lens/Lenses?

Depending on my tasks, but it's always in my bag.

7. Could You Live With Just An XF35mm Lens In Your Photography Bag?

If I had to keep only one, I will keep the Fuji XF35 F1.4.

8. Do You Like To Use Available Light Or Studio Light With Your XF35mm Lens/Lenses?

I'm using it with only available light. I consider myself a 100% natural light shooter

9. What Fuji-X Camera Body Do You Prefer To Use The XF35mm Lenses On? Why Your Choice?

My main Fuji camera is the X-Pro2

Why Your Choice?

The X-Pro2 is the best camera in the lineup. OVF and EVF, form factor and she is my Queen! Gorgeous and majestic ;)

10.Do You Have Any Favourite Photographs Using The XF35mm Lenses?

Yes, plenty!

11.Finish This Line: The Fuji XF35mm Lenses Are…

... a great piece of glass and crazy sharp
