X-Pert 53 Interview

back

Matt Is A Fujifilm X-Photographer From Liverpool, UK and specialises in black and white street photography.

Matt has an inspired method of treating his superb XF35mm street shots with his signature black and white glaze. He is certainly one photographer to admire as well as study in this regard. He holds street photography workshops, imparting his invaluable wisdom on taking successful street shots as well as learning how to blend into a street scene and become almost ninja-like in presence. He is also the curator of the ever popular Fujifilm enthusiast community Fujiholics and has had many of his images used in advertising, books and magazines. The XF35mm work you are about to see forces you to agree that it is no wonder that he has had such a vast amount of exposure. It's a true pleasure to have his style and grace adorn the 53mm website.

Here is Matt's X-pert 53.

1. What Genre Of Photography Do You Specialise In?

I am a Street and Event Photographer. I shoot Street 90% of the time now and the odd event when I get the time.

2. Why Do You Like Using The XF35mm Lenses?

I used to shoot with 50mm when I was a Full Frame Nikon shooter and the 35mm on a crop is about the same size so a perfect focal length for my need.

3. What Do You Like Photographing The Best With Your XF35mm Lens/Lenses? Why Your Choice?

Street and Events. It's the perfect focal length for this style.

Why Your Choice?

I carry something wide and something long with me when I am out but always have a 35mm with me for that standard view.

4. Do You Shoot Professionally With The XF35mm Lenses?

Yes

5. Fuji XF35mm F/1.4 Or Fuji XF35 F/2? Why Your Choice?

I use the 35mm f2 most of the time now and when the light drops or I need that extra couple of stops I use the 35mm 1.4

Why Your Choice?

Light fluctuation.

6. How Often Do You Reach For Your XF35mm Lens/Lenses?

I always have a 35mm with me and use it most weeks.

7. Could You Live With Just An XF35mm Lens In Your Photography Bag?

Not for my professional work no, I need to be flexible so need a range of lenses.

8. Do You Like To Use Available Light Or Studio Light With Your XF35mm Lens/Lenses?

Depends where I am and what I am shooting, but I prefer to be outside and use what ever light source is available, from natural light to shop and street lights.

9. What Fuji-X Camera Body Do You Prefer To Use The XF35mm Lenses On? Why Your Choice?

I prefer the 35mm f2 on the X-Pro2 and the 35mm 1.4 on the X-T2

Why Your Choice?

The 35mm f2 was designed as part of a set for the Xpro2 and I prefer it on that camera for its size and speed. The 35mm 1.4 I have is well used now and behaves better on my X-T2.

10.Do You Have Any Favourite Photographs Using The XF35mm Lenses?

Yes attached.

11.Finish This Line: The Fuji XF35mm Lenses Are…

...  flexible and very very sharp.
