X-Pert 53 Interview

Radek Kalhous Is A documentary Photographer from the Czech Republic.

Radek was recommended to me by Czech Republic Fujifilm X-Photographer Vojtech Hurych who described him as one of the best documentary photographers in the Czech Republic. He went on to say that Radek had fallen in love with the Fuji X-Pro2 and XF35mm f/2 lens combination. With that guidance, I had to see if I could encourage him to take on the X-pert 53 Interview so that he could share with us his recent experience with this formidable dynamic duo, as well as his unique style in documentary photography using the 53mm FOV. I am so very glad he said yes.

Here is Radek's X-pert 53.

1. What Genre Of Photography Do You Specialise In?

I work as a photojournalist, so I photograph all spectrums from news pics, portraits to sport actions.

2. Why Do You Like Using The XF35mm Lenses?

I love this weird focal distance. It is an unidentifiable and unattractive lens. There is no perspective of a wide angle lens and it isn't as flat as long lenses. Pictures seem to be a little impersonal and I like this kind of distance.

3. What Do You Like Photographing The Best With Your XF35mm Lens/Lenses? Why Your Choice?

Why Your Choice?

I love to see reality through one lens. You are more concentrated and Fuji 35/2 gives me the right field of view.

4. Do You Shoot Professionally With The XF35mm Lenses?

It depends on kind of work which I need to do. I have used Fuji cameras for just three months so I am a beginner in fact. But step by step I am more courageous.

5. Fuji XF35mm F/1.4 Or Fuji XF35 F/2? Why Your Choice?

Definitely the 35/2.

Why Your Choice?

Because of the size. My pictures have never been based on low focus of field so 35/1,4 is too big and unnecessary for me.

6. How Often Do You Reach For Your XF35mm Lens/Lenses?

Always when I want only one lens.

7. Could You Live With Just An XF35mm Lens In Your Photography Bag?

For my personal work yes, not for commercial.

8. Do You Like To Use Available Light Or Studio Light With Your XF35mm Lens/Lenses?

Always available.

9. What Fuji-X Camera Body Do You Prefer To Use The XF35mm Lenses On? Why Your Choice?

X-Pro 2.

Why Your Choice?

The best Fuji model. I love optical viewfinders.

10.Do You Have Any Favourite Photographs Using The XF35mm Lenses?

Yes, sure.

11.Finish This Line: The Fuji XF35mm Lenses Are…

... the switch between commercial and personal work.
